Hi lovelies!
A few months back (think, last fall) I did something pretty fun — something not on the blog but just in life! I did the 10×10 challenge. Some of you may know what this is, others of you are like the10what? The 10×10 challenge is something that Style Bee started back in 2015 as an attempt to get her excited about the clothing she had in her closet and encourage creativity with her fashion while trying to embark on a 30 day spending fast. The idea was to avoid buying more because she was feeling blah about the current options in her closet…which I love!!
You can read her post about the “rules” and why she decided to do it here!
I put quotes around “rules” because they’re not super strict, you can really make this challenge what it needs to be for you! Like for me, both times I have done this, I have not included shoes in my 10 pieces, it just makes it a little more functional for my purposes!
I first heard about the 10×10 challenge literally the day before the fall version started this last year (ha!) and was like, I should totally try this…so I did! Except, as many of you know, I work full time for a company that has a fairly strict dress code, so sadly, I couldn’t just pick a few cute jumpsuits and some layering tees for my challenge and call it a day. I had to put some honest thought into it because dressing appropriately for work with limited options is HARD!
That said, I loved my first experience and definitely found a few fun new ways to wear the 10 pieces in my closet (you can see my daily outfits on my saved Instagram story titled Fall 10×10 – IG: @briwidmer). I will be honest, though, I was truly SO ready to wear something else at the end of the 10 days (LOL) but I obviously enjoyed it enough to want to do it again! My motivation this time is moreso because we’re getting married in a few months, I’m trying to do a better job of not spending extra money on things I don’t need/really, really, really want – so in a sense, I’m doing my own sort of “no spend” period as well.
So here we are…the summer 10×10 challenge…& this time I’m documenting it below!
The 10 Summer Pieces of Choice
Day 1 – Women’s Group and Picnic with a Friend
Day 2 – Church and Sunday Night Family Dinner
(Also can I just say, these first 3 photos were taken at the same time, basically, and edited the exact same why — why does this one look so funny?? …things I will never understand 🤷♀️)
Day 3 – Work
Day 4 – Work and After-Work Winery Double Date
(Again with this weird lighting??)
Day 5 – Work and Bible Study Dinner
(I would like to mention that our dinner this evening ended up being canceled but I’m keeping it in the title because it was something I kept in mind while getting dressed that morning! Also – during a typical week, I wouldn’t wear this blazer 2 days in a row…but it was the only blazer I had as an option during this challenge and we had a few important meetings both days, so I went with it!)
Day 6 – Work
Day 7 – Work (Casual Friday)
(Never mind how HORRIBLY these pants wrinkled throughout my day at work! 😳)
Day 8 – Wedding Planning Meeting and Time at Home
Day 9 – Church and Baby Shower
(Pro tip: if you are looking to dress down a fancy work dress for weekend-wear, add a cute pair of sandals and a matching casual hat!)
Day 10 – Work
There you have it friends! Whether you’re doing a shopping fast like Lee (Style Bee) or like me, are more interested in rethinking the way that you wear some of your favorite pieces, I would highly recommend giving this little challenge a shot!
I would also totally recommend doing this challenge with your friends – I feel like it would be so fun to explore your creativity together in that way & be able to hold one another accountable for your devotion to this challenge. PLUS showing up each day at work or school and texting your outfits to one another on the weekend would just be so fun to do together throughout the challenge!
Although technically the fashion community does this challenge once a season, you don’t need to wait to do it – start tomorrow if you’re feeling it!
(P.S. Let me know which one of my outfits was your favorite over the past 10 days! I’m interested to see what y’all like 🙂 )
XOXO
